Volunteers

Hospice

We will journey with you.

The hospice volunteer is an essential part of the hospice team working together toward the common goal of providing comfort and support at a critical point in a life of the hospice patient.

All volunteers take part in a one-on-one interview, a background screening and special training prior to choosing their volunteer opportunity.

What types of opportunities are there for volunteers?

  • Patient support: Spending time with patients may include friendly visits, reading the local news journal, taking rides to the beach or to smell the grapes in the fall, walks in the Gibson park or down the street, writing letters or cards, listen to life stories…both those told many times and those unfolding
  • Providing respite and support for families: sitting with the patient while the caregiver attends to errands or personal appointments, grocery shopping, or even a friendly visit with a family member, from someone who understands this most difficult time
  • Bereavement support services: work with the bereavement coordinator at the monthly support group meetings or assist with the annual memorial service
  • Fundraisers and Board of Directors activities

Becoming a volunteer with Community Nursing Services of North East’s hospice program can make a big difference in someone’s life, including your own.
