Who We Are
Maintaining a tradition of caring and quality since 1920, Community Nursing Services of North East is one of Erie County’s oldest established agencies

Community Nursing Services of North East is a non-profit, home health and hospice agency providing in-home services to the North East community. Established in 1920, to aid the Red Cross Organization, the agency is committed to providing high quality services to the residents of North East Borough and Township. The agency received Medicare Home Health Certification in 1968 following the establishment of the Medicare benefit by the federal government in 1965.
Home care services gained popularity in the late 80’s and government regulation tightened in the 90’s with many agencies closing their doors. Community Nursing had done their home work and was prepared for the major changes when they arrived. Evident to the agency was that technology was vital to continuation of compliance with federal and state regulations. The agency moved to computerized software for billing in the mid 90’s. Clinical software and laptops for the nurses came in 2000 and expanded as the agency grew. At the urging of the community and local physicians, Community Nursing sought and achieved hospice certification in 2003.
In 2005 Community Nursing continued its commitment to the community of North East with the use of a restricted bequeath to purchase and renovated an older home in the community. With additional room the agency has been able to increase programs offered to the community and host other nonprofit services/programs that previously were only available out of the North East area.
Community Nursing Services of North East may be one of the smaller home care agencies in the state, but size does not matter when it comes to meeting federal and state compliance regulations. All Medicare home care and hospice agencies must meet the identical conditions and regulations in the same time frame. Compliance with regulations is only part of certification and must be accompanied by high quality care and knowledgeable and efficient staff. Community Nursing Services of North East has the exceptional record of being surveyed by the Department of Health and found to be free of all deficiencies for the past 18 years. The staff and Board of Directors are proud of this outstanding accomplishment.
